How can I find out if I can use footage from opensource movies (community videos), i.e. copy and remix? I find the terms of use really hard to understand.

I am asking especially for the item

The safe answer is that because there is no creative commons license indicated, that you need to get permission from the author for re-use.

You should find the author and ask.
